A place to be together. A place to be nourished. A place to be.

Come to stay.
For a weekend get-away or a prolonged retreat, we’d love to have you stay at Cistern & Cellar’s Van Leer Place, located in Beaufort, MO.

Come to gather.
Join a Cistern & Cellar gathering or plan your own. Van Leer Place is available for yoga, meditation or writing retreats, team meetings, or family gatherings.

Come to eat.
Sunday Suppers offer a locally grown, seasonal menu served family- style, honoring the practice of sharing home cooked food and conversation about all the the big and small things that make our lives.
A place to just be.
Cistern & Cellar packages include access to the Van Leer Place home, garden, and grounds. Overnight stay options allow you to completely turn off – let us provide homemade meals, canned goods, or fresh baked goodies each morning if you like.
A place to be together.
Loved ones have been gathering at Van Leer Place for over a century. Whether cooking and canning in the kitchen, or gathered around the living room rocker learning to crochet, it is a well-worn place to gather away from the pace of daily life. Cistern & Cellar gatherings let us slow down, be together, and create something beautiful. If you are planning your own gathering, Van Leer place is the perfect spot to host a team retreat, family meal, or holiday celebration. It is an ideal contemplative setting for yogis and meditators to gather in community.
A place to be nourished.
Sunday Suppers is the tradition at the heart of Van Leer Place. For decades family, neighbors, friends and visitors joined in the Sunday afternoon meal (call it what you want – dinner, lunch, supper) where simple food and lively company replenishes. One Sunday per month at 1 pm Cistern & Cellar serves up a farm-to-table, family-style meal and the lost art of conversation.
Our History
Cistern & Cellar is on Van Leer Place – a Missouri Century Farm – that has ties to the community, the land it sits on, and one family for over 150 years.
